Dirk William Byrd Objective:Employment in Project Controls /
Scheduling / Work Management Experience: February 2015 – Project Controls / Scheduler Currently working at the MOX Fuel
Fabrication Facility (MFFF) using P6, scheduling construction. Tasks include
day to day schedule updates, reconciling outyear budgets with labor and
material profiles. Imports to and from P6 / Excel to support material and
labor reporting. Custom Excel and VBA programming to support reporting and P6
imports for bulk data and fine details. March
2014 – August 2014 Nuclear IT Scheduler Worked with Duke Energy in Charlotte for
the Duke / Progress merger. Using MS Project 2010 to schedule both Duke
and Progress Information Technology projects. Worked with Project Managers and Program
Managers to manage resources to keep projects on schedule. Reported schedule variances as they occur
to allow PMs to apply resources as needed. I worked in Engineering Change (EC),
Engineering Data Base (EDB), Action Tracking (AT) and Performance Improvement
projects. Also Time Entry, and Maintenance and Test Equipment (M&TE) and
the Fleet Observations project (FOBS). All schedulers on the Duke / Progress
IT integration did Software Quality Assurance on all of their projects at
least once a week. We also cross checked each other’s projects and gave
feedback. February
2012 – June 2013 Sr. Scheduler / Project Controls Worked with Computer Science Corp. (CSC)
Program Management Organization (PMO) on the North Carolina Medicaid
Management Information System (NCMMIS) using MS Project 2007 with a Master
Schedule and 28 subprojects. This included transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10.
These projects were resource loaded by named resource for a total of about
1.5 M person-hours. I interfaced with several of the individual Project
Managers and Team Leads on a weekly basis to ensure over and under
allocations were kept to a minimum. I also did custom programming to extract
Project data and present it in Excel reports for end users without access to
MS Project. Reconciled financial timekeeping data with project schedule.
Performed monthly Earned Value reports based on existing CSC report formats.
CSC used the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). We did Software
Quality Assurance (SQA) on all projects at least once a week. July 2011 January 2012 Sr. Scheduler / Project Controls Installed $10M ISC upgrade to International
Paper Eastover, SC facility working for Zachry Industrial, Inc... Developed
custom macros and VBA code to create Master Schedule and resource loaded
daily schedule from Excel detail estimates. Met with staff and field
supervision to update monthly, weekly and daily schedules. Imported labor
cost actuals from Zachry proprietary database exports. Produced weekly status
reports, EVM, cost and schedule variance reports. Performed field walk-downs
to compare actual work with engineering drawings and schedules, monitor
safety and environmental compliance and other duties as required for Zachry
Industrial as an independent subcontract scheduler. March
2011 to June 2011 Contract Project Controls / Scheduler Worked with Primavera and MS Project.
Specialized in electronic transfer of Engineering Estimates to new or
existing schedules, electronic update of actuals and projections, CPM
(critical path), “what if” analysis, actual versus planned (material and
labor) budget and cost, and Earned Value reporting. Experience with large
projects in nuclear and fossil energy and other large construction projects. October
2006 to March 2011Westinghouse Electric Co. Sr. Scheduler Implemented Work Management based on INPO,
DOE and other industry best practices; identifying functional equipment
groups (FEGs) and reviewing existing maintenance to group work, minimize
equipment downtime and increase maintenance quality and production on
existing equipment. Prepared detailed, resource loaded schedules, integrating
Project Systems Engineering and Major Projects work scope into these improved
maintenance plans. Primary scheduling tool was MS Project, also used
Primavera P3.1, P5 and P6. Mediated multi-discipline team status meetings.
Integrated schedules between maintenance, production, major projects and
plant systems engineering to identify both previously unrealized resource
conflicts between projects and windows of opportunity to integrate systems
upgrades and new project’s field execution windows with planned maintenance
cycles. Gathered and analyzed data; generated reports to track trends and
communication of current status and future projections to management, staff
and floor level personnel. Automated repetitive tasks to reduce re-keying
data in electronic formats between applications to increase productivity of
scheduling and maintenance planning organizations using VBA and other
programming languages. April
2006 to October

Microsoft Office application software, including using Visual Basic for
Applications (VBA) to automate electronic updating of information between
applications including Primavera, MS Project, Excel and third party software
such as SAP reports and Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS). February

schedule, cost and earned value reports. Met with project managers and
project teams for monthly status updates. Created schedule and cost variance
reports to allow management to make decisions on which projects required
additional support, develop recovery plans or to accept the schedule/cost
variance. 1997–2002Westinghouse
